PAVILLION IN THE MOORISH STYLE

Educational house Hausen

The „pavilion in the moorish style" is a joint venture of the major social groups of Stuttgart´s neighbourhood Hausen. Under the supervision of the architect a retreat, yes even an oasis in which to dwell was created in the outer area of a school. The monument was on the one hand meant to be a sign of the successful cooperation, inclusion and integration in the school yard and community, on the other hand a highly welcomed place of retreat.

The children and pupils created the tiles, the parents created the curved ceramic parts for the pillows. The mosaic balls were created in the course "mama learns german".  For the construction of the roof the youth club and the youths themselves were responsible.

The addition/ accretion/ amendment “Moorish style” the pavilion got after a coloured sketch/ drawing draft sketch. The Moorish style was developed from the 8th century in the South of Spain. By the 14th century the moors had developed a blooming style of artistry culture and science in Al Andaluse. This time is also called the golden age of cohabitation of Islam, Jewish and Christian culture.

We interpreted this style new, in that we incorporated the diversity of the people in our neighbourhood and had them being reflected in the surfaces of the individually created tiles, plant-like pillows and the colourful mosaic balls of our pavilion.
